Letters Home

For this weeks  IF topic "Mail" here is what came out.  I just watched White Christmas so WWII was on the brain, my guess is the idea came from that some how.

Have you ever thought about how different movies are now compared to then? I love White Christmas but at the same time can't help but get a little annoyed at how much dancing they do. During those scenes I always think "Pretty cool dancing, but what does it have to do with anything?" I have the same problem with Singin' In the Rain when Gene Kelly is dancing in that one scene that really has nothing to do with the plot of the Movie. You know the one. I can't describe it really because let's be honest, the last couple of times I watched the movie I fast forwarded it. It seems like he knocks on some doors or something.
I love Singin' In the Rain and White Christmas but, yeah, movies are different now.

Melwick Page 5

This page is only a digital painting this time instead of a full out watercolor. That might be the norm from now on, but watercolors are so fun so hopefully I'll still get some of those in too.

Next week, there won't be any posts about Melwick. I'll say it's because of the Holiday, but that is only partly true. I also have to worry about other work for a bit. I'll be back to posting Melwick again on the 31st of December. :)
We may or may not see other posts before then about other stuff. Who knows? Not me.
Happy Christmas

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Here is the poster art I did for the Empress Theatre's Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I wanted to keep it fun and simple, hopefully it worked. I've heard good things about this production. Get over there to see it if you haven't yet. :)

Wizard Melwick page4

More adventures of Wizard Melwick!

This was done of a little different watercolor paper than the others. It has more texture so I did less colored pencil on top.  I think I like the other better. Which is good to know as I'm going to order more paper soon. :) I know, super interesting... or not. Enjoy!

Illustration Friday--Sneaky

Hello Friends!

Here is a little watercolor I whipped up for Illustration Friday's topic "Sneaky".  It was fun to work with watercolors again. It's been all digital for the last couple of weeks.

Don't forget to watch for my blog posts coming in December, featuring a fun character named Wizard Melwick.

What artists do when they are avoinding work...

Instead of working on the paintings I should have been working on my siblings and I had a little fun drawing on the kitchen floor.

This is my masterpiece.

My 12 yr old sister drew this awesome dragon.

And this was a collaboration between my brother (he wrote the note) and 10 yr old sister. She drew the drawing pigeon. Pretty great.

As you may have guessed that floor no longer exists. A new one is going in  at this very moment.

One other note. I have some fun planned for my blog coming in December. I hope fun for me and any possible readers, so look for it... if you want.

Spooky

I recently watched what I think is my first Zombie movie, and this sketch came out of it. You can probably guess which one by the quote at the bottom. ;)  I thought about adding color but since the movie is black and white I decided the sketch should match.
It was a quick-y, but fun to do. (and I may or may not have been at church when I drew it, but I'm not admitting anything.)

Atmosphere

I had fun creating this little sketch for Illustration Friday's theme this week.

Also, I'll be at a booth on Saturday the 28th for the Magna Art Festival. If anyone wants to come and visit it would be great. I'll probably have this picture up for sale as well as some other little sketches. I'm Sharing the booth with my Dad who creates some beautiful things out of wood. He'll have fine furniture for order as well as fun little puzzles for sale and other fun stuff.

Bluegrass

A couple week ago I went to the annual Bluegrass festival and instrument competition. It was great fun and besides getting a little jamming in myself I also spent a lot of time drawing the jammers, and the mountains. Here are some of my favorite sketches.

Also here is an interview I watched today that I really loved and drew a lot of artsy insight from. :)

p.s. I really don't know how I ever got a long in life with out my pocket watercolor set.

What do you think?

This is a series of illustrations I've been working on for a while. I sneaked time on them in between other projects I've been working on. Overall I like how they worked out but I'm not sure I want all the illustrations in my portfolio. I'd love to hear your suggestions on which ones I should keep and which I should toss, if any.

More from the Sketchbook.

I just barely finished writing a VERY interesting blog post about how my friend Stephen and I have been doing a sketch day this year and keeping tabs on each other by text to make sure we do it. I talked about how good its been to sketch more and probably said some other interesting stuff about how much I like looking at other peoples sketches on their art blogs so I wanted to post more of mine. Then my computer did a weird freaky thing that it had never done before and I had to restart and thus, I lost the text. So I suppose you don't get to know about all that. Here are some sketches.

A Painting

I did this painting a couple months ago as a wedding present for some friends. Congratulations again Thad and Erika!

Some Posters.

Here is the poster art I did for the Empress's Christmas Show.

And this one I did for their next production, The Odd Couple

I really have fun with these because It give me a chance to explore new styles and mediums according to what is needed for each play, rather than keeping things in my same old style.

Princess Character Sketch

I did this little character sketch while I was developing characters for a book. This sketch wasn't the character I used for the book because she looked too old, but I really liked how this drawing turned out. I think the book will be out later this year.
